The First Day of Framing

One week and a couple of rainstorms later, and construction begins. Lots of 2x10's were brought up to the attic, and the beginning of the structure for the dormers was being fabricated. The rafters at either end of each dormer were beefed up with 3 2x10's.

Blowin in the Wind

Bob Dylan would have liked the tarp today.

Dumpster 2

Still empty for the moment, this one will get filled with roofing debris, and other construction debris. It will be here for a month or so (sorry, new neighbors)

Alum-A-Pole

The ubiquitous work platform. Also apparently a poor man's crane. It made many round trips today with loads of 2x10's.

New Rafters

Here are where two new beams meet at the ridge. Seems like there must be a song in there somewhere...

Work Area

Here's where the rafters are cut to fit.

Tail End

Here's where one new beam sits -- partly on a joist and partly on the exterior wall header.

Hub of the Universe

Well, perhaps not, but the hub of our little home network. Still in tact so far. I don't know how well all that Cat5 is going to hold up through the construction. Yikes.
